Javier Gil is a Latino, first generation college student, from Baldwin Park, CA. He graduated from Sierra Vista High School in 2009, and went on to graduate from Citrus College in Glendora, CA, with associate degrees in Sociology and Social & Behavioral Science. He is currently a student at Cal Poly Pomona, earning his Bachelorís degree in Sociology. While performing his duties as Managing Director, Javier is also the Community Service Director for the Mexican American Student Association, located at Cal Poly Pomona. Javierís passion for social equity, political awareness, participation in higher education, and confidence in oneself, has led him to working with todayís youth, mentoring and assisting students, so they are better prepared today to conquer the challenges they will encounter tomorrow.

Deon Geary is one of our new Program Coordinators at MPYD. Geary was a Scholarship Student Athlete at Cal State Dominguez Hills where he studied Sociology and Criminal Justice. After his pursuit of a professional career in basketball, Geary returned home to help John Muir Boys Varsity Basketball team as Assistant Coach. As an active athletic trainer in both Pasadena and Los Angeles, Geary spends his time away from MPYD promoting a healthy lifestyle and staying active in various sports and weightlifting. Geary is a big time advocate of the values of MPYD.

He admires most the growth of the organization during the rebuilding period here at John Muir. Geary is very excited to get to work with the students.

Amber Banks has assisted MPYD as a tutor and office manager. As an aspiring teacher, Amber strives to help the youth of the local community. She has her Bachelorís degree in History from Spelman College, and is pursuing her Masterís Degree in teaching at USC. She enjoys tutoring students from various grade levels, and thrives on helping them reach their full potential.
